AFRICA: Youngest Bishop In The World

Father Christian Carlassare, a 43-year-old Comboni missionary who works in one of the most difficult areas in the world, South Sudan, is now the youngest missionary bishop of the Catholic Church.

The Bishop-Elect was born on October 1, 1977 in Schio, Italy. He did his philosophical studies at the Faculty of Theology of Central Italy in Florence, and the novitiate in Venegono. He then got his Bachelor’s degree in Missiology at the Urbanian Pontificia University in Rome and was ordained priest on September 4, 2004. He spent 16 years of his ministry in South Sudan. On March 8, 2021 the Holy Father Pope Francis appointed him as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Rumbek in South Sudan.
