Fabio Patt, a Comboni Missionary Brother, reflects on his 33-year journey in the service of the Gospel. From his beginnings in Milan, Italy, to his experiences across Africa and Asia, his faith and commitment have been the foundation of his missionary calling.
Their presence was first in the Unites States. Sent to Latin America by the Pope, the Comboni Missionaries have later spread to different countries of that part of the continent, facing different realities and challenges.
October is a month in which we pray for the missionary activities of the Church. In 1926, Pope Pius XI established World Mission Sunday to emphasize this purpose. It is celebrated annually prior to last Sunday of October, which this year falls on October 20.
As we enter the 2024-2025 formative year, our community embraces Pope Francis’ call for spiritual reflection on mercy in preparation for the Jubilee Year. We are also committed to instilling in our seminarians the importance of addressing the socio-political challenges affecting our most vulnerable brethren.
I am reading—or, better still, meditating on—an inspiring book titled "A Song for Nagasaki." It tells the story of Takashi Nagai (1908-1951), a Japanese scientist and radiologist who was described by those who knew him well as “the doctor who healed hearts.” I share my reflections in the hope that those who read them will find inspiration to make their life’s mission a true passion, more meaningful than ever before. I am deeply moved by the witness Takashi Nagai gave to Christ!
Bilang isang misyonerong Comboni, napakahalaga sa akin ang missionary mandate ni Hesus na matatagpuan sa mga ebanghelyo, “Pumunta kayo sa buong daigdig at ipahayag ang ebanghelyo sa buong sangkinapal.” Mission Ad Gentes – misyon sa mga tao – ang mga Comboni Missionaries ay hinuhubog upang ipahayag ang Mabuting Balita sa mga bansa. Sila ay dapat maging handa na lumabas sa kanilang sariling bayan at ipakilala si Hesukristo sa mga lupain na hindi pa nagpapasakop sa ating Panginoon.
Every love story is beautiful, but my love story with Jesus is my favorite. It began in a devout family, grew during my student years, and flourished through my missionary work in Africa, shaping my faith and resilience.
From St. Daniel Comboni himself to the present time, hundreds of his missionaries have given their life for Africa. It is a story of success. It is now Africa that gives back its contribution to the Church and to the Comboni Missionaries.
The “Absolute Divorce Act,” also known as House Bill (HB) 9349, was recently passed by the House of Representatives in the Philippines. The aim of this bill is to legalize absolute divorce for couples facing difficult situations in their marriage. If this bill becomes law, divorce will be legal in the Philippines. Bishop Alberto Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran has responded to the passing of this bill, stating that divorce destroys the sanctity of marriage as a sacred covenant.
