Welcome Pope Leo XIV

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, at the age of 88. On Easter Sunday, up to the last moment of his life, in spite of his frail health, he wanted to manifest his deep love for people. He appeared in front of the tens of thousands of people present at Saint Peter’s Square, and in a weak voice, from his wheelchair at the balcony of Saint Peter’s Basilica, he said “Happy Easter.” The reaction of the people was one of great delight!

The Story Of Takashi Nagai And His Call For Peace

I am reading—or, better still, meditating on—an inspiring book titled "A Song for Nagasaki." It tells the story of Takashi Nagai (1908-1951), a Japanese scientist and radiologist who was described by those who knew him well as “the doctor who healed hearts.” I share my reflections in the hope that those who read them will find inspiration to make their life’s mission a true passion, more meaningful than ever before. I am deeply moved by the witness Takashi Nagai gave to Christ!

Mission And The Holy Spirit

The coming of the Holy Spirit upon Mary, Mother of Jesus, and upon the disciples of our Lord marked the birth of the Missionary Church. Something extraordinarily beautiful and important happened: Mary became Queen of the universe; Peter, from being timid and weak, became a courageous witness of the Risen Lord, and all those who were baptized became living stones of the Church. Calling to mind this great event leads us into prayer:

Confidence in God’s Love

As I was preparing the contents of this article, I  got inspiration from  two documents of Pope Francis: his message for Lent 2024 and his apostolic exhortation on Confidence in the Spirituality of Saint Therese of Lisieux.

Mission Revisited

We have become familiar with the motto, “Mission is our Passion.” But I have been thinking about the need to revive the awareness of important realities, otherwise they may even lose their grip in our missionary journey.

Listen, Celebrate, and Announce Jesus!

October, the missionary month, reminds us to pray for our missionaries and to reflect about mission. In his message for World Mission Day, Pope Francis highlighted three images from the Gospel passage about the disciples of Emmaus (Lk 24:13-35) that are helpful for our reflection on mission.

Serving with Love and Energy

The World Youth Day 2023 will take place in Lisbon, Portugal from August 1 to 6. The theme for this World Youth Day is: “Mary arose and went with haste” (Lk 1:39). In his message in preparation for this gathering, Pope Francis said that Mary is “a model for young people on the move, who refuse to stand in front of a mirror to contemplate themselves.”
