As I was preparing the contents of this article, I got inspiration from two documents of Pope Francis: his message for Lent 2024 and his apostolic exhortation on Confidence in the Spirituality of Saint Therese of Lisieux.
We have become familiar with the motto, “Mission is our Passion.” But I have been thinking about the need to revive the awareness of important realities, otherwise they may even lose their grip in our missionary journey.
October, the missionary month, reminds us to pray for our missionaries and to reflect about mission. In his message for World Mission Day, Pope Francis highlighted three images from the Gospel passage about the disciples of Emmaus (Lk 24:13-35) that are helpful for our reflection on mission.
The World Youth Day 2023 will take place in Lisbon, Portugal from August 1 to 6. The theme for this World Youth Day is: “Mary arose and went with haste” (Lk 1:39). In his message in preparation for this gathering, Pope Francis said that Mary is “a model for young people on the move, who refuse to stand in front of a mirror to contemplate themselves.”
It has been 10 years since Pope Francis was elected to the Holy See as successor of Pope Benedict XVI. It was on March 13, 2013 that the Habemus Papam, (the official announcement of the election of a new pope) was proclaimed at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
The Pontifical Urban University hosted a conference on November 16-18, 2022 to mark the 400 years of the foundation of Propaganda Fide which had been responsible for the missionary activities of the Church since its foundation until it was merged in June 2022 with the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization into the Dicastery for Evangelization.
