The coronavirus pandemic affected the regular daily living of citizens, curtailing the social and economic dimensions of human beings. With the uncertainty as to whether this state of affairs will be the new norm, some strive to appreciate the positive side of it.
Jesus said “You always have the poor with you…” (John 12: 8) This is indeed true. The gap between the rich and the poor has widened especially in this time of the pandemic. Our duty as God-fearing people is to take care of the poor among us.
In many representations, Jesus is portrayed as white. But the reality is completely different. Jesus was from Galilee, and people there are not white. That is why we should stop pretending that he was white.
Protecting the environment is not just an ecological concern but also a social one. The impact we have on the earth, similar to how the coronavirus pandemic affected our lives, does not only influence the environment but also human lives.
In Biblical times, there were plagues. In trying times like these, with the rampant crisis of the coronavirus disease, also known as Covid-19, we are left with no recourse but to bond together in prayers and find solutions to stop spreading it further.
It is not easy to live by faith as this cannot be seen. It cannot be measured by the money we donate. What is important is to always seek God’s will in our daily lives and obey His commandments.
While there are many good Catholics committed to end abortion, others are not. It would be good to rearrange some of our priorities so as to make room throughout the year for the unborn and other suffering people.
After a heavy rainstorm, we see the beauty of a rainbow. No matter how dim it might seem, there is always the glimmering hope for change we can hold on to and continue to tread upon towards the righteous path.
Daybreaks and new years are both beginnings; like Jesus, we are invited to begin our days and new year talking to God, thanking Him and asking for His blessings.
The Advent season reminds us of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem, and of our own personal journeys to become more like Jesus Christ, our own Bethlehem.
