Enough food is globally produced to feed everyone, yet 815 million people go hungry. Can we have enough food to meet the needs of the world’s population? To ensure global food security, agriculture will be obliged to rely on small rural food producers.

The Asian Youth Day (AYD), a major event of Asia’s Catholic Church, is taking center stage in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Some 3,000 young people from 29 Asian countries are expected to gather in the Javanese city , July 30 – August 9,2017, for the youth meeting on the theme, “Joyful Asian Youth: Living the Gospel in Multicultural Asia !”
Feats of violence and blood are tainting the province of Kasai which has sided openly against the re-election of outgoing President Kabila. Church buildings, including the Bishop’s House and the seminary, were attacked. The Pope made an appeal, exhorting all to pray for peace in the African country.
The United Nations has formally declared that a state of famine exists in this East African nation, with 100,000 people immediately facing starvation. Pope Francis has appealed for the hard-hit people of South Sudan, urging the international community to provide food aid.
The current three-year-old conflict in South Sudan has forced more than 2.3 million people to flee their homes. These war-affected populations also need psycho-social and spiritual help to mitigate the effects of war traumas and to enable them to move on with their lives.
In Ghana, all hopes for a festive celebration of the birth of the Child Jesus were dashed off when, on the night before Christmas, soldiers attacked a village, taking away boys and girls. In spite of this tragic event, the expected birth of a baby turned suffering into hope and we still celebrated Christmas. This is how it happened.
