Our history is significantly marked with the crown of martyrdom of our 25 martyrs – priests, brothers and sisters – who shed their blood at the service of the Gospel and the people in dangerous spots.
There is an entrenched dissatisfaction among the masses with the failure of the governments to deliver the promises of a fairer distribution of goods and services. The appalling concentration of wealth in the hands of a few people triggers a desire for change.
For Christians who believe in the truth and that, ultimately, God is the truth, this post-truth era poses threats and challenges. More formation and critical observation are called upon so as to stand by the concept of truth no matter what.
The only hope is that the president-elect will be different from the candidate and that the challenges of governing will soften and moderate his stance.
Pastors are to avoid judgments that do not take into account the complexity of various situations, and they are to be attentive, by necessity, to how people experience and endure distress.
Pope Francis and other religious leaders have been committed to bring together representatives of the different faiths to pray for the much-needed peace in our planet.
The final goal of Mission Sunday is to remind Christians that the Church has been mandated by God “to proclaim mercy in every corner of the world, reaching every person, young and old.”
The Church has warned, several times, about the dire consequences of this strategy and denounced the killings, defending the rule of law and due process for the suspects.
The commitment to mission promotion through the mass media which for us, Comboni Missionaries, is part and parcel of our identity allowed me to embrace my new mission.
The Social Doctrine of the Church is constantly challenged to adapt to the social needs of people of each time and place, applying, in a dynamic and creative way, the principles of the Gospel to the human experience.
