As Pope Francis says, using weapons to solve conflicts is a sign of weakness and fragility. Instead, negotiating, mediating, and building peace requires courage. May men and women of goodwill have the audacity to build shalom for everyone.
Every religion has some way of saying that we ought to do to others what we would like others to do to us. This is a powerful message in an age of community clashes, ethnic conflicts, merciless competition, and intensive cultivation of self-interest.
In the quest for peace, there must be a deep reflection on the diverse causes of conflicts, hard work at removing those causes, and a commitment to the elimination of violence in society. This is a life-long struggle.
