There was this young girl who already knew at an early age that she was not cut out to have a boyfriend, let alone get married. Why? Because she grew up with brothers and highly doubted a man would be brave enough to face them. And then bad reality set in as she got older.
She got sick mentally. She called them “episodes” of her mind relapses. As her neurologist psychiatrist explained, her brain’s nerves, the cells that connected, would suddenly have epilepsy and break.
It would be cut off so quickly that she snaps out of reality. There was a lot of paranoia and fear. It took her a long time to snap back to the real world. Even more, she knew and believed nobody could love her that way, nor have the strength, patience, and understanding to love and care for her.
But she dreamed. She did all she could to see the good in what is bad. When it came to having a career, she frequently found herself unemployed due to getting sick and then finding work again, yet she did not give up. She kept on sending out applications. She kept building a stronger portfolio, hard as it was. She saw it as her way of flexibility with the different fields of work she did.
DREAM OF BEING A TEACHER
The first of her dreams that came true was becoming a teacher. As a young girl, she already knew she wanted to be a teacher. When she was already in her mid-30s, thinking she might not get accepted, she still sent in the school’s requirements to complete her job application. She might have lacked credentials, but the college dean saw potential in her. It might have been a short-lived career with teaching, but she still came to realize more of her dreams.
She went on to become a published writer. She took baby steps to accomplish that, but bit by bit, she kept going. She went on to attend different workshops and made an effort to enroll in an online class. She kept getting sick but she kept moving, not wanting her “illness” to stop her from living her life. First, she was published in an Asian regional children’s magazine. The editor appreciated her work. Then, she moved on from that until she became a frequent freelance writer and contributor for a Catholic publication.
From childhood, her biggest dream was to become a songwriter. But she could not play instruments. She was taking a class in piano but she had to stop because her mom saw how she cried so hard in pain when her teacher slapped her hands. Her mom could not bear her daughter being slapped by another. She had to stop taking that class. But her dream to become a songwriter was still instilled in her heart. As she got older, she continued to write poems because they’re lyrical. Through the years, she developed her God-given talent to write. She invested her time in learning the different genres and styles of writing until she became well-equipped in her craft.
She came to a crossroads when she entered a nationwide songwriting contest. It disappointed her that she was not qualified enough to make it to the televised competition, but what made her feel frustrated was that after the competition, she heard a new song that had a similar title to what she had written on the radio.
They were stealing her work. She knew it was patterned after her song entry because she did not know of any other songs that were out with a unique concept of what she wrote. She wanted to quit in attaining that childhood dream. Years went by, and that wishful thinking almost became stagnant and gathered dust. But did she quit? No. She did not let a simple hurdle like that stop her from achieving her lifelong dream.
LOVE KNOCKS AT THE DOOR
Before she knew it, love came knocking at her door. Who would have thought that a simpleton like her would find someone to love? And that someone could love her back. But only dreams are made in movies. She kept wondering if it was just an imagination, or was it remotely possible for her dream love to come true?
She might have failed in achieving a successful career but seeing it now as the beauty in the madness of her “crazy” world, God blessed her more with love. First of all, from childhood, she has always been filled with God’s blessings of love from her true family and real friends.
It might have been quite difficult for her to stay connected and in touch with her loved ones but they always remembered her as she did them. Now, with dream love? Love was important in finding meaning in life. God is answering it. Only God can continue showering her with abundant blessings of happiness beyond her wildest imagination.
